The 1st International Islamic Forum, themed “Islamic Civilization: The Path of Peace, Tolerance, and Enlightenment,” was held under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and organized by the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan from 7–11 July 2026 in Tashkent, Samarkand, and Termez. Bringing together 500 academics, researchers, and experts from 46 countries, the forum examined the scholarly, cultural, and historical heritage of Islamic civilization from an interdisciplinary perspective. During the sessions attended by leading scholars in their respective fields, various aspects of the Islamic intellectual tradition were evaluated through contemporary academic perspectives.
At the session entitled “Imam al-Tirmidhi and the Hadith School of Termez,” Ertaş presented a paper titled “The Portrait of a Hadith Scholar: Imam al-Tirmidhi (d. 279/892) and His Scholarly Legacy.” The paper comprehensively examined the scholarly identity of Imam al-Tirmidhi, one of the distinguished figures in the science of hadith, his works, his contributions to hadith methodology, and his exceptional place in the Islamic scholarly tradition.
The internationally held forum made significant contributions to strengthening academic cooperation among researchers from different countries, developing joint scholarly studies, and introducing the rich heritage of Islamic civilization centered on knowledge, peace, and tolerance to wider audiences.
This important scholarly organization, in which our academician represented Türkiye and our university at the international level, is expected to contribute to the development of new academic collaborations and to further research in the field of Islamic civilization.
